Diversity in Academic Medicine
Diversity is one of the core values of The University of Arizona, a value that informs Strategic Priority 1 as described in the Five Year Strategic Plan FY 2006-2010.

Diversity is also a core value at the College of Medicine. We recognize that recruiting and retaining faculty with diverse life experiences, training, interests and perspectives will enhance the academic and research missions of the UA College of Medicine by expanding the ideas in circulation. Further, as the population continues to diversify, it is important to train physicians that reflect the patients they serve.
Diversity is a challenge in academic medical institutions, as can be seen by the statistics provided by the Association of American Medical Colleges. For this reason, programs have been developed at the UA College of Medicine designed to increase the diversity of both students and faculty, and improve health care for minorities. A few of these programs are described below, and in the section on Women in Academic Medicine. |
