Dr. Wright, a Research Professor in Pediatrics, oversees all aspects of the Faculty Affairs Office. Her tasks include design and implementation of programs to: foster career development, mentoring and leadership for faculty; improve faculty recruitment and retention; assess and reduce gender disparities; increase faculty diversity; and systematically evaluate the effects of these efforts. An anthropologist, Dr. Wright has been an employee of the UA College of Medicine since 1979. She has conducted epidemiologic research concerning asthma in childhood and infant feeding practices. She has experience directing projects that implement sustained change in both health behaviors and the status of women. She is committed to creating a climate where faculty feel welcome and valued.

As Director of Faculty Affairs, Debbie develops and implements faculty development programs. She coordinates the new faculty orientation and career development workshops. She also reviews faculty hiring packets, including draft letters of offer, handles paperwork for Affiliates and Associates, and answers related questions. Debbie has been an employee of The University of Arizona since 1979. More than 25 of these years were spent in Human Resources (with 11 years in the College of Medicine), through which she gained expertise in the areas of Employment, Recruitment, Compensation, Organizational Development and Employee Relations.

As Director of Appointments, Promotion Tenure, Melanie coordinates and oversees faculty and professional appointments and also oversees various faculty reviews. She liaisons with University administrative offices in relation to faculty issues, policy and procedures, and provides administrative direction to department and College of Medicine administrators. Melanie coordinates the COM Promotion and Tenure and the COM Continuing Status Committees and oversees various academic and administrative reviews. Melanie has been employed by the College of Medicine Academic Affairs Office since 1990 and has been involved with Faculty Affairs since 1993.

As Administrative Associate, Teresa organizes recruitment of new department heads and center directors at the College of Medicine. This includes setting up candidate interviews and search committee meetings, managing recruitment budgets and assisting in the development of strategic systems and plans for recruitment. Teresa reviews the initial packets for faculty appointments. She assembles and distributes packets for review by the College of Medicine P & T Committee and prepares approval letters. She provides administrative and clerical support to the Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs. Teresa has been with the College of Medicine since 2006 and the University since 2005.

As Coordinator, Data Management, Jane serves as primary coordinator
of information regarding faculty and academic professionals. She
is responsible for E-Verifications of all newly appointed personnel
in the College of Medicine and maintains the Appointed Personnel
database and personnel files. Jane provides reports and updates
as required or requested by the university, colleges or departments
as well as LCME updates and AAMC designations. She coordinates
the contract process for all COM faculty and professionals, responds
to credentialing requests and assists with the bi-annual Orientation
for new faculty. Jane has been employed by the COM since
1996, where her last position was Executive Assistant to the Head
of the Department of Medicine before accepting a position in the
Office of Faculty Affairs in April, 2006.

As Executive Assistant to the Vice Dean for Academic Affairs, Patti’s primary role is to provide administrative and clerical support to the Vice Dean, maintain his calendar, schedule meetings and act as liaison person for medical students, residents, physicians, classified staff, faculty, and dean in the COM, UMC and UPH-Kino. Patti works very closely with the Faculty Affairs team in assisting with the COM department head administrative reviews, academic program reviews and the annual report. Patti has been working in the COM since 1999 where she first worked in the department of Anesthesiology.
