Conversations with Colleagues – A New Mentoring Program
“Promotion & Tenure for Dummies”
“Conversations with Colleagues,” is a new opportunity
for informal mentoring in the College of Medicine, involving roundtable
discussions over the lunch hour. It is open to all COM faculty
members. Two faculty members, one clinical and one from
basic science, will start the conversation around a topic chosen
for the session. Sample topics include: Finding Your Scholarship,
Effective Communication and Faculty Service. The invited
faculty members will each talk for a few minutes on the theme,
based on their personal experiences, and then discussion will be
open to all participants in a question and answer format. The series
will provide a venue for junior faculty to get answers to all kinds
of questions related to a successful career in academic medicine,
as well as a unique opportunity for identifying both senior faculty
and peers who could serve as mentors.
